2017 Carignane
Carignane is perhaps the nearest and dearest varietal to Janell's heart, (other than Zinfandel, of course). This fruit comes from the oldest portion of the family vineyard. Its vines are huge - double the wingspan of a typical human - with large, tight berries. With exceptionally low yields, it is rare that the Dante Dusi Carignane gets its own label. These grapes were so good that Janell went for it again, with only 170 cases made.
100% Carignane, a rarity in Paso Robles.
Rich, opaque color. Nice earthy nose, remnant of bark followed by dark fruits of black currant and blackberries. It’s complex, and if you’ve seen these giant vines you’ll understand why. There’s a lot going on in the glass – this one made us want to pull out all our fancy wine descriptors! Lots of dark fruit on the mouth, while staying soft and bright. The low acid results in an elegant wine, nice mid-palate with a smooth finish that makes you want to keep on drinking it.
